Robust distribution at distances of up to 2000 m

FASTBUS with multimode fiber optic cables

The FASTBUS master and slave modules in the FM21x and FS21x series have been expanded to include the new FM22x and FS22x versions with multimode fiber optic cables. This allows remote connection of substations at distances of up to 2000 m from the controller.

The controller networking on the basis of fiber optic cables with the Bachmann FASTBUS was designed for applications in which large distances are combined with exceptional ambient conditions. The access times of less than 4 µs per station and signal are unachievably fast for latest real-time Ethernet fieldbuses. The FASTBUS technology enables networking of up to 15 substations with each up to 15 I/O modules. Complete diagnosis of the fiber optic line is possible directly in the user program during commissioning or during service. The signal quality and the transmitted and received power can be measured either locally or via remote maintenance.

The utilized multimode fibers and the push-pull connection system (LC connector specification) correspond to the established Ethernet standards. The compact and robust fiber optic components which are used increase the reliability and long-term availability at minimal costs.
