Bachmann Monitoring Extends Portfolio with Structural Health Monitoring

Bachmann Monitoring, recognized leader in the field of Condition Monitoring Systems (CMS) for wind energy plants, expands its competence considerably by acquiring team know-how and intellectual property from airwerk GmbH. This addition significantly enhances Bachmann’s portfolio in the area of Condition Monitoring to include Structural Health Monitoring (SHM).

By adding substantial SHM know-how to its already successful products and services, Bachmann offers a comprehensive monitoring concept to its customers. This state of the art SHM enables early detection of potential damage to structural elements, which plays an important role in the operation, maintenance (O&M) and asset management of offshore wind energy plants.

Holger Fritsch, Managing Director at Bachmann Monitoring, is very pleased with the expansion, “Our goal has always been to create a holistic asset monitoring concept. Now we can offer exactly this. With the expertise from our new SHM colleagues, we are able to create a noteworthy USP in the fast-growing international offshore market,” says Fritsch.

Bachmann’s expertise in data analysis enables it to provide its customers with qualified statements on the dynamic properties of onshore and offshore structures. Such statements include the prediction of possible problems or optimization strategies for important maintenance tasks. More specifically, SHM fulfills regulatory requirements, reduces O&M costs and efficiently supports asset management.

The offshore wind industry faces significant and unique challenges which SHM can clearly address. Ever-increasing cost pressures, for example, force operators to think hard about service life extension, prolonging maintenance intervals and increasing operational efficiency. “We’ve expanded Bachmann’s previous condition monitoring concept to include SHM, which creates significant added value for customers,” explains Kirsten Larson, the new SHM Team Leader at Bachmann.
