ROMEO Advances its Cost Reduction Strategies for Offshore Wind Energy

Members of the EU sponsored project met to review progress of Operational & Maintenance (O&M) cost reduction strategies and to define next steps.

(Feldkirch, Austria, June 4-5, 2019) – ROMEO, the European Union’s offshore wind energy project, met recently to analyze progress in developing predictive models for offshore wind production. These models will greatly reduce production costs (LCoE – Levelized Cost of Energy) of offshore wind energy, and thereby help the EU achieve renewable energy targets by 2030.

The EU goal of supplying 32% of energy consumption from renewable sources by 2030 is still far from being met. Currently, only 14% of energy demands are supplied by renewables. The EU subsidized initiative, ROMEO, was created to develop a SMART platform for offshore wind farms, which optimizes operational data for analysis and cost-efficient wind farm management.

The meeting was hosted by consortium member Bachmann Monitoring, at the parent company headquarters of Bachmann electronic, in Feldkirch, Austria. The focus of this two-day meeting was on the technical progress made to meet project goals, yet also included ample room for discussions.

Next steps
The next possible meeting of ROMEO partners will be at the Wind Energy Science Conference 2019 in Cork, Ireland from June 17 – 20. This collaborative multi-disciplinary forum is open to professionals to explore the latest developments in wind energy, emerging trends and identify future collaborators. The conference also included a dedicated topic on Offshore Wind Energy.
