With a wide range of topics on Wind Energy automation and its long-term benefits, Bachmann electronic and Bachmann Monitoring successfully managed to attract a high interest during the 29th Windenergietage, which took place in Potsdam, Germany from 10 to 12 November 2021.

Profi[t] am Wind X – Wind Energy 5.0:

Under this motto, numerous short presentations, organized by Bachmann and moderated by Prof. Jochen Twele, HTW Berlin, were successfully presented during the Forum 17, by renowned speakers from a wide range of disciplines.

The lectures were divided into 4 thematic Blocks:

With ‘Profitability begins after ROI - Lifetime extension and retrofit’ being the opening themes of the Forum, various case studies and topics were thoroughly analyzed, such as continued operation, service life extension, optimization of efficiency and yields through Power Source protection, as well as reduction of failure risks.

As a global market leader in the automation of wind energy turbines, Bachmann electronic presented its latest solutions, for increasing the profitability and investment security by extending the operating times of the wind turbines.

Airborne wind energy and everything around the rotor blade - the next theme of Forum 17- was strongly focused on the Cantilever sensor (CLS) for rotor blade and tower monitoring. Bachmann Monitoring explained how to achieve blade load detection, ice detection and structural monitoring with the same technology. Ring cracks in rotor blade bearings, crack monitoring on structural components and unbalance detection were further discussed during the Forum. Moreover, the cost of erosion damage was extensively discussed and new technology for blade angle measurement was introduced.

Virtual power plants implemented in real life – in the energy network- the Block 3 theme, was unfolded through a variety of interesting lectures, such as the VDE-AR-N 4120:2018 and VDE-AR-N 4110 certified Smart-Power-Plant-Controller (SPPC) from Bachmann, Network Code on Cybersecurity, Demand Side Management Screen Drainage and concluded with the presentation of a practical example on Power to H2.

The final theme of Forum 17 was concentrated on Cost Drivers and Stumbling Blocks - Digital Operations Management. Highly specialized lectures were given on topics such as: Determining outage work after Re-dispatch 2.0 and HybridNet. The lectures were followed by a free discussion round with 9 different participants, on Management, Operation and Maintenance (O&M). Prof. Twele challenged the panel with questions about cost drivers and approaches to solutions. The panel, which consisted of operators, manufacturers and other "experts" from the wind energy sector, addressed the questions openly, which led to an exciting exchange of opinions.

The introduction of new technologies in Wind Energy Automation, the multiple examples and case studies and the extensive discussions, successfully led to an increased interest, constructive networking, and ex-change of innovative ideas about future-proof solutions for the Wind Energy Industry!

All lectures and the discussion round of Forum 17 were accompanied by continuous livestreaming and are available under the respective links in the text.
