Bachmann Monitoring GmbH has been selected by Green Power Investment Corporation (GPI) to deliver a complete Structural Health Monitoring System (SHM) to the Ishikari Offshore Wind Farm Project, Hokkaido, Japan.

Installation of the 112 MW offshore wind project, featuring 14 Siemens Gamesa type SG 8.0-167 DD turbines, will begin May 2023, with Bachmann to deliver, install and commission a customized SHM solution to facilitate predictive maintenance, help minimize downtime, extend the lifetime of turbines, and reduce the Levelized Cost of Energy.

The offshore wind project is comprised of 2 rows of 7 turbines with an onshore substation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The Bachmann SHM, including hardware, sensor design, cable mounting and data storage system, will collect and directly process monitoring data, before transmitting processed data to shore for analysis.

Turbines will be installed on 4-legged jacket substructures, with pre-installed pile foundations, where SHM will play a critical role in guaranteeing structural integrity for decades to come.

“We are honoured that GPI has chosen Bachmann for this ground-breaking project,” says Holger Fritsch, General Manager of Bachmann Monitoring GmbH. “The installation of a comprehensive SHM system will deliver a wide range of benefits that complement the continuing success of the Ishikari Offshore Wind Farm Project. This partnership reinforces Bachmann’s position as a global leader in Condition Monitoring and Structural Health Monitoring, and, with it, our entry into the exciting Japanese offshore market.”
